The Tollbird box is a device for processing electronic tolls in Italy, France, Spain and Portugal. As soon as the toll box is installed in the vehicle, you can use it to drive through (almost) all toll stations and even more than 800 parking garages without stopping, without tickets and without waiting.
Your Tollbird box communicates wirelessly with the toll station or the antenna installed in the car park and initiates digital payment processing using the payment method you have stored (e.g. VISA, Mastercard, Google Pay).
The Tollbird box is black, slightly smaller than a credit card, about 5mm thick and battery operated. The battery life span is specified by the manufacturer as approx. 7 years.
Your toll box works on the entire motorway network in Italy, France, Spain and Portugal (whenever you are traveling with a car less than 3m overall height).
The Tollbird box generally works in all lanes at the tolling plaza over which the Telepass (Italy), Télépéage (France), Via-T (Spain) or ViaVerde (Portugal) logo is attached. As a rule, these are all lanes of a toll station. Of course, we recommend that you use the lane specially reserved for toll box holders and save as much time as possible. The trail is often marked in blue.
You can also use the box in all multi-storey and underground car parks that are marked with one of the highway operator logos listed here. Look out for Telepass, Télépéage / Liber-T, via-T or ViaVerde.

Yes. To do this, please log into your account. You can change your official vehicle registration number under the menu item Vehicle / License Plate. Please note that it can take up to 48 hours for the number plate to be entered correctly at all toll stations. Plan the grace period of 48 hours if you want to use your toll box with another car or lend it.
The toll box will regularly work regardless of the number plate. In the event of an (unlikely) reading error, however, the toll operators use the license plate as a fallback solution. In this case, if the vehicle registration number is not stored in the database, the toll, together with a high fine, will be collected elsewhere.

No not at all. Everything you need to install behind the windshield is included and it shouldn't take more than 90 seconds to mount the Tollbird Box in the car. You can see exactly how it works here.
Next to the rear-view mirror inside the car, on the passenger side. If your windscreen is coated, please install the Tollbird Box in a place that is not marked. Otherwise the box is best kept on the black scratched/dotted area to the right of the interior mirror. On the left side of the mirror it is in your field of vision when driving, on the right side you will not see it at all.

We recommend that you keep this cover in the glove compartment in case you should ever find yourself in a situation where you would rather pay in cash. In the radiation-resistant bag, the device cannot communicate with the toll station.
A crystal clear “Yeah, but no”. The box cannot be switched off and must not be opened under any circumstances.
However, we deliver the Tollbird Box in a bag that shields the device. We recommend that you keep this cover in the glove compartment in case you should ever find yourself in a situation where you would rather pay otherwise. Only until the end of the month, you can cancel the contract at any time. However, the annual fee already paid in advance will be retained in this case.
The contract runs for one year and is then automatically extended for another year. If you no longer need the Tollbird Box, you can send it back to us at any time. The contract is then automatically terminated before the next renewal.

We recommend the Frequent Traveler package for four or more car trips per year to Italy, France, Spain and/or Portugal. If you are traveling in these countries for three or fewer different calendar months, you should be better off with the Captain Holiday price plan.
Basically quite simple:
In the Frequent Traveler model you pay the activation fee and from then on €19.90 per year. In addition, there is only the toll due depending on use. Then nothing.
In the Captain Holiday model you pay the activation fee and from then on €7.90 per year. In addition, there is the toll due depending on use, as well as a fee of €3.90 for each calendar month in which the device was used.
Good news no. 1: In order to prevent us from charging you for a trip from 28.04. - 03.05. If you bill two months within a year, we only charge the monthly fee once for journeys that take place within three days before the end of the month and three days afterwards.
Good news #2: We don't charge a surcharge on the toll in any of our models. That alone can add up to a further 5.00€ with other providers, for example with 100€ tolls.
Austria and Switzerland collect road tolls via a vignette. This can only be purchased online under certain conditions, unfortunately the T-Box does not work in these two countries. However, we are working on being able to offer some route tolls in Austria soon, e.g. the Brenner toll or the Karawanken tunnel.
The manufacturer states a service life of approx. 5-7 years. We will contact you to replace your device with a new one before it expires.
Very important: Please do not try to change the battery yourself. The device is a means of payment and must not be opened or manipulated in any other way.
No, absolutely not. Under no circumstances may the Tollbird toll box be opened, damaged or manipulated in any other way. The barcode stickers also contain important information and must not be removed.
The Tollbird Box works well over 99% of the time. In the extremely unlikely event that the toll station is unable to read the device, the toll station will take a photo of the vehicle passing through. If your license plate number is stored correctly, the toll will simply be charged to your account.
If the number plate is not stored or is stored incorrectly, the motorway operators reserve the right to pursue this, which can entail considerable costs (e.g. penalties for driving through a toll station without permission, costs for determining the vehicle owner, costs for payment processing, etc. ).

Yes very much. Please note that you have to enter the license plate number of your rental car in your user profile. Of course, you can order your Tollbird Box by specifying a different number plate and then update it when you pick up the rental car.
Very important: Please remember that you later replace the license plate number of the rental car in your account with your own plate number. This prevents future trips of the rental car from being billed to your account.
Some car rental companies in Italy, Spain, France and Portugal offer their own permanently installed boxes in the rental vehicles. If this is the case, please use the radiation-shielding protective bag in which your box is delivered to prevent the toll from being charged on both devices. If you don't have the protective cover to hand, commercially available aluminum foil also shields the device.
Important note for Portugal: Please note that in Portugal all rental vehicles must be equipped with boxes and the pre-installed toll boxes must be used. You should thus not use the box in a rental car in Portugal.

Yes. Please use a mixed track. If an employee is on site, they can easily read in the device. After the ticket has been entered, the machines can also carry out the billing via the T-Box. Hold them close to the machines for this purpose.
Is there a length limit for my trailer, trailer or mobile home?
No. Only the height (max 3.00m) is limited.
Does the French system automatically recognize the vehicle class for price calculation?
Yes, on French motorways all vehicles are covered by camera surveillance to ensure each vehicle is charged the correct rate.

What happens if I entered the Autobahn via a "normal" toll lane (i.e. by taking a ticket) but want to exit via a tele-toll lane.
In this case, please choose one of the mixed tracks. Only here you can enter the ticket in the machine. The machine automatically recognizes your T-Box.
If there is no mixed lane, you can also drive through a lane manned by an employee. The employee can then also bill manually via the T-Box.
What happens if I entered the Autobahn via an exclusive Telepass toll lane (i.e. with T-box) but exit via a normal toll lane.
In this case, you must tell the Telepass employee where you entered the Autobahn. If no employee is available, you can also use the “assistenza” call button to request help.

What happens if I entered the Autobahn via a "normal" toll lane (i.e. by taking a ticket) but want to exit via a tele-toll lane.
According to the terms of use, the maximum toll rate will be charged in this case. However, please do not drive backwards to change lanes.
In this unlikely event, we recommend using the intercom at the toll station to ask an employee to read the ticket and the T-Box manually in order to prevent payment of the maximum toll rate. This is done as a gesture of goodwill, the toll operator can refuse and insist on paying the maximum tariff.

Please note that your toll box must be correctly installed in the intended location on your windscreen. In Portugal, the system works a little differently than in other countries. That's why it's even more important that you have the right license plate number in your Tollbird account.
